This Mama's Soup and Smoothie Cleanse Week, and Intermittent Fasting Experience

I think I've tried about every trending diet; none have been successful. With the paleo diet, I saw myself losing weight, but then my cholesterol levels were through the roof! I stopped eating carbs for a while, and then my cravings for carbs came back with a vengeance. As a result, I packed on twenty pounds! Then there was a time where I ate an egg every morning. Soon, I became sick of hard-boiled eggs.

Then I decided to just stop dieting and just eat less. I realized that eating three standard meals a day, plus snacks in between, was leading to an annual weight gain. Every year, I was gaining an average of two to five pounds! I always thought that the portions I ate were small. But in truth, standard portions are too big for one person. I'd pop if I eat an entire entree by myself at Cheesecake Factory or Applebee's! 

I was also eating too many animal products. My skin was terrible. I was always tired. I had stomachaches. So I started to eat more fruits and veggies, and replaced milk with plant and nut-based alternatives. (Ever try pea-based creamer? It's amazing!) I began to fast intermittently and do water or juice cleanses every now and then. I replaced a meal or two with Soylent. I began to love eating veggies. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but I'm definitely eating a lot less animal products.

I love the almond kale smoothie (with banana and vanilla) and all the hearty soup bowls. Each smoothie has a different taste, and the soup bowls are also all different. Splendid Spoon also offers a blue smoothie made with organic blue majik from spirulina.

For five days, I nourished myself with Splendid Spoon's Program 2.0. I didn't have to worry about making breakfast, and preparing or buying lunch. I felt satiated, and my taste buds were happy. When you eat healthier meals, your body goes through a detoxification and cleanse. And oh boy, yes, did I spend time in the bathroom. I felt like I was cleansing out my colon!

I especially liked the meticulous packaging Program 2.0 came in. The smoothie bottles came in reusable bags. The soup bowls came with pretty packaging complete with inspirational quotes.

Now I've mentioned a lot of good about the program. What about the bad? Day six of soup cleansing wasn't my favorite day. I didn't enjoy every flavor of the soups. Vegan bone broth tasted especially sour. I also felt Splendid Spoon loves using cumin. Some of the soup bowls felt repetitive and a bit too chunky. When the smoothies came, they were also icy inside. I let them thaw a bit before I drank them. 

Program 2.0 also isn't inexpensive, but the price is fair for 15 meals (six days of food!) Going through the program, you feel a sense of accomplishment. You also save on time. You're eating vegan food, and cleansing your body. You're teaching your taste buds to enjoy vegetables and fruits. And you see what good portions sizes are for each meal. 

Intermittent fasting is gaining a lot of traction in research. I really don't believe humans are born to eat three large meals a day and snack in between. Our ancient ancestors never had that privilege.
