Vessi The Weekend Waterproof Sneakers Honest Review and First look: Vessi's new 100% waterproof and machine-washable lace-up sneakers!
Hi friends! Recently, I received a pair of Vessi’s Weekend Waterproof Sneakers to review, and boy am I impressed and excited! I just unboxed my very first pair of vegan, 100% waterproof, and machine washable lace-up sneakers! They’ve come just in time because it’s going to start getting rainy again in the Pacific Northwest. (With all the fires and smoke going on in the West Coast, rain is welcomed! Can 2020 get any crazier? Really!?) Literally a sneaker that can do it all; the Vessi Weekend Sneaker is made with patented “Dyma-Tex knit” that is waterproof, breathable, stretchy, and lightweight. This sneaker is so comfortable too! Usually waterproof sneakers wrap tightly around your feet, making them hot and uncomfortable. Not the Weekend Sneaker! It’s easy to slip-on and it conforms nicely around your feet, like a gentle yet comforting hug. It’s possible there will be no break-in period with this sneaker, if you choose the right size, or a shorter break-in period.
How to find the right fit for your new pair of Vessi Weekend Sneakers
Sizing
The Vessi Weekend Waterproof Sneaker runs wider than the other Vessi lines such as the Cityscape and Everyday sneaker. The toe box is comfy. This is a good shoe for people with wider feet, like me. I wore my Weekend Sneakers without socks, and they fit well, but perhaps a litter on the loose end. I usually wear a size 8 to 8.5 in US Women’s size; size 8 is just right for me. The Vessi Weekend Sneaker only comes in full sizes.
It’s possible the Vessi Weekend will be a comfortable shoe for people with mild bunions, as it has a wider silhouette throughout.
Color Choices
Whether you’re buying the Men or the Women’s Weekend Sneaker, you get to choose from the same four color offerings: Marble White, Oak Brown, Concrete Grey and Asphalt Black. The Asphalt Black is a throw-back to black and white Chuck Taylor Converses for sure. I just had to pick the Marble White Weekend Sneaker. It looks so classy and aesthetically pleasing with pure white laces. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, change up the laces. You’ll get an extra pair, courtesy of Vessi.
I’d love to see a pink pair in the near future, or some funkier, fun colors, Vessi!
Pricing
The Vessi Weekend Waterproof Sneaker costs $155 (USD). Five dollars from every pair of Weekend Sneakers sold will go directly towards mental health awareness organizations. This price is slightly higher than other waterproof and water-resistant sneakers in the current market.

Arch support
Vessi’s “Weekend collection offers the strongest boost in that area thanks to the special PU molded insole! These styles would be best suited for those that require extra help in that department, and those Vessi lovers who would like to wear their shoes for longer periods of time - or during more active activities.”-vessi.com
If you find the arch support is not enough in these sneakers, you can always remove the insoles and place your own custom orthotics into your pair of Vessi Weekend sneakers. The removable insoles that the Weekend Sneakers come with are foam-like, and made to absorb some shock.
Slip-resistant soles. As per Vessi, the Weekend is their most slip-resistant line.
What I love about the all-new Vessi Weekend Waterproof Sneakers
They’re comfortable! Feels like I’m walking over cloud… bread!
A second pair of laces
100% waterproof properties, 100% machine washable (cold, air dry only). Finally, a Vessi Sneaker that can be thrown into the washing machine! The lazy cat in me is rejoicing! The waterproof properties of this sneaker are built right into the knit itself. It’s not a coating; hence you can just throw this shoe into the washing machine whenever it’s dirty.
You can totally forego socks if you want to, but most people would probably find the Vessi Weekend Sneakers more comfortable when they wear socks.
Vessis are 100% vegan and creature-free 🌱!
NO TOE HUMPS! YES!
What can be improved?
Perhaps the price is a little on the higher end for a sneaker, but hey, $5 of every shoe sold is donated to a great cause!
They’re not made for running. But hey, they’re quite fashionable, so you can wear them at work, at a day-time party, at the mall… You can go hiking with them (easy trails) and go on a light jog with them, but more supportive shoes are recommended for high-intensity activities.
You can’t swim in these shoes. Water will go in through the ankle opening. Ok now I’m being very nit-picky, but it’s very hard to find things I don’t like about these shoes. These are definitely my favorite pair of Vessi shoes! You can wear these shoes around a swimming pool though. Just don’t jump into the pool. Your shoes and feet will be soaked, LOL.
I believe people with latex-allergies still cannot wear Vessi Weekend Sneakers. (“If you have a latex allergy, Vessis might not be the right shoe for you. The midsoles are made out of lightweight EVA, and the outsole is made of rubber. There is a chance that you would have similar reactions to the rubber material.”)- vessi.com
Vessi Return and Exchange Policy

Washing the Vessi Weekend Sneaker
Remove the laces and insoles from the Weekend Sneaker, but remember to toss them into the wash too. (The insoles are probably stinky from your funky feet!) Wash everything in cold water under a gentle cycle. I usually throw my shoes into a laundry bag, and toss in some ice cubes whenever I’m machine-washing my shoes. Again remember to air dry, not dryer-dry!
Final remarks
What a wonderful waterproof, vegan, cruelty-free, and machine-washable Vessi has created! Vessi has taken a lot of feedback into consideration, went back to the drawing board, and designed a sneaker that the masses will love and adore. I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot of techies and Pacific Northwest folks wearing Vessi Weekend Sneakers come this fall, and I’m proud to be one of the first reviewers and owners of this incredible sneaker.
