Zoom fatigue and tired mama eyes: Felix Gray Sleep glasses honest review

Felix Gray Blue Light Filtering Computer Glasses

Hi friends, it’s been a minute! I can’t believe it’s almost the end of January 2021. It was just yesterday when I fell asleep before seeing the new year’s eve Times Square ball drop. (and I’m on the west coast, so yes, I fell asleep before 9:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, lol. I was so partied out in my living room, so I didn’t even change before I went to bed. Granted, I was already in my pajamas. Heh.

Luckily for us, we are seeing glimmers of hope, now that COVID-19 vaccines are here; however, remote learning, remote meetings, and remote work are not going away soon. Due to being home more, my screen time has skyrocketed! It’s reported that Americans now spend approximately 7.5 hours in front of a screen or digital device every day!

The reason I fell asleep so early on New Year’s Eve was I hadn’t slept well the night before. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, so many things have changed. I lost my beloved father in 2020, many friends have moved away, and I’ve been wearing more hats at home: blogger, remote employee, home-schooling mom, writer, stock-broker (go AMC, GME, NOK, and BB to the moon, baby!). Adjusting to a new reality has been hard. Increased screen time and my increased anxieties have led to insomnia.

When you don’t have a good night of sleep, you are not much different from a zombie the next morning. I can attest to that. I was so happy when my friends at Felix Gray sent me a pair of Felix Gray Sleep glasses (Volta) to review. I already have a pair of blue-light-filtering glasses from Felix Gray (Faraday). You can read my review here.

I love the Volta frames from Felix Gray. “Volta’s strong, square frame seamlessly blends structure and sophistication. Recommended for those with wider face shapes or those looking for something more oversized.”- Felixgray.com

Felix Gray states, “Our sleep lenses help improve melatonin secretion by 2x. (They are) available in non-Rx, Rx, and reading lenses.” The sleep lenses are amber-orange tinted and have blue-light filtering properties. It’s great to wear sleep glasses about an hour or two before you sleep. Of course, it’s best to have no screen time an hour or two before you sleep. We all know how hard that is. (I’m looking at you, I know you’ve fallen asleep with your phone in your hand, or next to you!) Amber, warm yellows and oranges are also soporific tones. (Blue lights keep you awake on the other hand.) A good pair of blue-light filtering glasses should help you reduce eye strain, reduce glare, and address computer vision syndrome: eye strain, eye discomfort, headaches, pain in the neck, shoulders, back, dry eyes, and blurry and or double vision. As I have not worn my sleep glasses for a long time yet, I can’t say they have helped with me sleeping better. I have had my blue-light filtering glasses for a while now, and I can say they definitely help prevent computer vision syndrome (which I have experienced) whenever I wear them!

When you visit the Felix Gray website, you can virtually try on any pair of their frames to see if they would look good on you. You just need to turn on your computer/laptop/iPad or smartphone’s camera and allow the website access.

The acetate frames from Felix Gray are made in Vietnam. The black frames look trendy and feel sturdy, though there is still a little bit of squeaking when you play with the hinges. The glasses comes mailed in a recyclable box, and you’ll get a case and a wipe.

“Our lenses target the range of Blue Light that impacts melatonin secretion (440-500 nm wavelengths) to help improve the quality of your sleep.

  • Clinically proven to increase melatonin secretion

  • Naturally helps you sleep (no sleeping pills necessary)

  • See true color despite the lens tint”

Felix Gray sleep glasses cost $145 a pair. The blue-light filtering glasses are $95. They aren’t inexpensive, but they will be useful as you continue to work remotely or ramp up in screen time. Shipping, returns, and exchanges are free, so there’s a plus!
